Terrace, BC; The Hidden Gem in Canada

The bustling small mountain city of Terrace, BC is a hidden gem in Canada that is making a name for itself. Our team was honored to be a part of this project to make tourism experiences in Terrace accessible to you.⁠

Visit Terrace embarked on a brand refresh in 2023 that sets a bold new path forward and builds on work in positioning itself as a premier tourism destination in northwestern BC. While a formal rebrand involves a comprehensive change to a company's brand identity, including its visual identity, it also tends to involve a complete overhaul of the brand's positioning and strategy. Our team at Destinate Group started by writing a strategy, followed by getting them a $300,000 grant through tourism relief funding.

We recognized that the region was under-utilizing their digital presence and needed a full digital strategy and brand refresh in order to be seen by potential visitors. Before we put together the digital strategy and brand refresh, we did a survey and used the results and feedback from previous stakeholder workshops and the development of a Greater Terrace Community Tourism Strategy (2022-2025)* that helped inform the development of the brand refresh. 

In 2022, the Greater Terrace Community Tourism Strategy (2022-2025)* was developed in alignment with the objectives of the Destination BC Annual Plan was undertaken to inform the project. Our strategy included:

  • Created websites for attractions, operators

  • Digital training for their teams on how to manage their website and to increase their digital presence including Trip Advisor and Google

  • Set up a professional photography and video collection for promotional use

  • Digital software to map itineraries for ease and convenience of creating interactive itineraries for tourists

  • Connecting local tourism operators and attractions

  • Creating a vision, value, and mission for the organization

  • Created a digital training course for the tourism industry in Terrace so that everyone local can take real pride in their destination and be a part of the customer service culture for tourists

  • Assisting them towards getting their sustainable tourism certification through GreenStep tourism which is recognized globally

*The Greater Terrace Community Tourism Strategy (2022-2025) was intentionally prepared to align with Northern BC Tourism and the Northwest BC consortium, in addition to the layers of the tourism eco-system that Terrace operates within. It incorporates international industry best practices from Destinations International and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are globally recognized.

Visit Terrace has an excellent product, a strong strategic direction, and a solid sense of self and who its strategic target audiences are. Its strong strategic plan builds on tourism industry best practices.

This brand refresh amplifies Terrace’s unique brand position and strengthens it by creating a new visual identity that aims to modernize and update the brand without fundamentally changing its core identity or values. 

The refresh aims to keep the Visit Terrace brand relevant and fresh in the eyes of visitors, consumers while reflecting a modern feel that reflects a sense of adventure, exploration, discovery and wild experiences and we were honored to be a part of this project.

Terrace, BC is filled with so much natural beauty of the coast mountain range and the Skeena River, Natural Hotsprings, world-class fishing, breath-taking lakes and an incredible nature trail network. Get out there and go Visit Terrace for yourself.
